Visual Rhythm - Concepts v1

Heavily inspired by Moo Prints (Truf Creative example in Mood board) - my goals were to create variations on a single logo, visually represent movement (sound), and communicate fun/playfulness/sophistication. whew!

Below, I've laid out several new business/post card designs for Visual Rhythm.

Let's go Moo Prints! lets go! (clap!) (clap!) - or is it moo? moo?

Visual Rhythm lead by Andrew Bergeron, a seasoned web and graphic designer who develops custom web solutions and leads UI strategy.  Visual Rhythm is looking to expand and retain itself as a business by moving from client driven freelance work to agency driven freelance work mixed with the opportunity to be involved with developing/selling a digital product within a group of like-minded freelancers/entrepreneurs.

The target audiences for Visual Rhythm are agencies and individuals whom are experienced, driven, entrepreneurial and looking to expand their business and client services.  Because of their circumstances they are looking to hire outside of their internal team.  An ideal pairing for these agencies is a self-disciplined freelancer who is friendly, responsible and forward-thinking.  A perfect Freelance Designer/Developer should be able to lead the project, complete the job on time and make the agency look good to the client - without dropping a single pixel.

Visual Rhythm is a friendly brand - clear and thoughtful communication drives our creative process.  Our work is professional, functional and thoughtful.  Services range from logo, branding and print design to UI, web design and custom development.  What makes Visual Rhythm’s work special is our commitment to build top-quality custom solutions which reflect the uniqueness of each individual project we work on case-by-case.

I.D.E.A. District Creative Brief

My Draft of the I.D.E.A District Creative Brief Below

I.D.E.A District is a concept to cluster young, creative and educated citizens to San Diego’s East Village in order to create a neighborhood which thrives on technology, innovation and inspiration.

There is an urgency for cities to compete with each other in order to attract brilliant individuals to their areas.  This market is a entrepreneurial group that leads economic growth and brings high-paying jobs to the areas they live.  Research shows that this audience is attracted to areas with broad economic diversity, walkable streets, and plentiful amenities mixed within parks, open air and community space - all within a few blocks from where they live.   Wedged between San Diego City College and the New Downtown Library (oh, and did someone mention a Baseball Park?) San Diego’s East Village is a perfect venue to manifest the I.D.E.A District.

In order to succeed in connecting with this target group, it is critical that the I.D.E.A. District constructs a brand as sophisticated as their audience.  In addition to clearly outlining the icons, logos, fonts, colors and signage - an identity system should define the environment, personality and goals of the brand.  These visuals will guide the I.D.E.A. District from the attracting an audience through retaining the attention of a vibrant community.

The ART 135 Professional Practices class at San Diego City College is the obvious choice to establish an identity system for the I.D.E.A. District.  Located literally within the district,  our knowledge and connection with the neighborhood is deeply rooted and authentic.  By signing up for ART135, we students and our professor (MaeLin) shared an objective to better understand client relationships and do our best to gain some first hand experience with some “real world” projects.

Therefore, we are honored by the opportunity to build a branding system for I.D.E.A District.  Our deliverables will include logos, color pallets, icons, graphics and signage.  In addition, we well provide visions and outlines for how to evoke mood, message, and inspiration using mediums such as environmental design, projections, interactive art and crowdsourcing technologies.

Let’s build this.

Jacob Tyler - 625 Broadway - San Deigo

A big thank you to Charlie for the tour, info and fielding our questions.

Below are some notes and pictures from the visit.
sleek and stylish

Red is clear and stated everywhere

Not unintentionally inspiring view from the conference room (duh!).

one of the many very cool mood/art boards throughout their office
Super cool Keith Herring inspired "T" - I'm not sure what the π represents…
Very informative "real world agency" experience.  Some notes I jotted down were:
  • Get good at the numbers, money and financials of business - it is necessary for your survival.
  • Communicate well with others - everyone you work for or with.
  • The client is the center of the universe - at least they should be made to feel that they are the number #1 point of interest to whom you are serving.
  • Treat the client great - visit, dine and play with your clients to build trust
  • Learn to hire well.
  • Good project management is the key to success and growth.
I appreciated Charlies' solid advice in regards to being hired by JT — he suggested that our portfolios:
show thinking and process in order to stand out from other applicants

muggin - and look, my head just became punctuation.  BAM! now that's what's up :)

Good times.

Visual Rhythm - Mind Map

A quick (5 min) brainstorm separating the words "Visual" and "Rhythm":

straight from the notebook (I'm not sure why I drew the "=/heart" thing - I hope I remember
Below is a translation of my sloppy notes:

RHYTHM
  • LIVELY
    - ALIVE
  • PLEASING
  • THERAPEUTIC
    - RELAXING
  • DRUMS
  • BEATS
  • CONSISTENCY
  • HEART
    - PULSE
  • MUSIC
    - HARMONY
    - COMPOSITION
    - MELODY
VISUAL
  • NON-AUDIO
  • EYE CATCHING
  • PROVOKING
  • ART
    - DESIGN
  • EYES
    - GLASSES
    -- MONITOR
    -- POSTER
    -- NATURE
  • LIGHT
One interesting/inspiring observation I made from this exercise is the connection of the words "LIVELY & ALIVE" in rhythm and "NATURE & PROVOKING" listed in visual.  Also HEART(rhythm) and EYES(visual) are both body parts.
